Environments Studio
This studio is a hands-on and project-based course for students to learn the foundations for designing spatial-interactive experiences in middle-sized settings, such as museums, learning environments, and libraries. The students learn to analyze spaces, integrate technology for collective, time-based, and distributed interactions, and use drawings, renders, and scale models to ideate, represent, and communicate the spaces they are designing. In class, we practice in-situ observations and interviews while sketching ideas, exploring new technologies, and iterating our designs. The main goal of this studio is to introduce students to the emerging field of space-based Interaction Design, showing them how they can shape spaces and technologies together to create design solutions that improve people’s daily experiences in their homes, neighborhoods, and cities.
